Creature from the Black Lagoon is a slot that combines a traditional five reel game with free spins that are themed around the eponymous horror movie to produce really interesting gameplay. To give you a better picture of how the game works we will now take a look at its top jackpot, special features and symbols, paytable and betting limits.

Top Jackpot

As is the case with most five reel slots games, the top jackpot available to players results from a spin which sees five of the most valuable symbols from the game line up consecutively from left to right along any of those paylines.

In Creature from the Black Lagoon that most valuable symbol pays out a jackpot worth 750 times the player’s bet level for that particular spin. At the highest bet level of ten therefore, the jackpot is worth 7500 coins which at the highest available coin value of 50p equals a payout worth £3750. We will give some more information about what that most valuable symbol is and about what other symbols pay out, in the paytable section below.

Special Symbols

There are three main special symbols within the Creature from the Black Lagoon that are directly linked and which can all combine to provide players with really big wins. Those symbols are the free spins symbol, the wild symbol and the target symbol, and the easiest way to explain how they work is to begin with the free spins.

If a player’s spin results in three free spins symbols appearing anywhere then they receive ten free spins, if four appear they receive 15 and if five appear they receive 20. Those free spins occur at the bet level and coin value of the spin that activated them and as well as giving the chance of achieving winning combinations they also play another role.

That role essentially amounts to a bonus game themed around the creature of the game’s name and involving both the wild and the target symbol. When free spins are ongoing, the health meter of the creature appears at the bottom right of the screen and if a target symbol randomly appears on the fifth reel the meter is taken down one level.

During free spins – as in the main game – wild symbols can appear anywhere, substitute for all other symbols except the target and the free spins symbol and hold their position for a subsequent spin. If the first milestone is reached on the creature’s health meter however, a new type of wild is unlocked. That new type can only appear on reels 2-4, still remains for a subsequent spin but this time also spreads one position to the left to substitute at that space too.

If the next milestone on the health meter is subsequently achieved, the wilds then spread both one space left and one to the right and if the final milestone is reached a further ten free spins – with the top level of spreading wilds in action – are activated.

With the wilds paying out for the highest possible combination on any payline therefore, it is during free spins when the top spreading wilds are activated that really impressive levels of winnings can be achieved.

Regular Paytable

Creature from the Black Lagoon has 20 pre-set paylines and the most valuable winning combinations are those which include five consecutive identical symbols. The most valuable of the symbols are those depicting the human characters of the game named Kay, David, Carl and Lucas.

It is the Kay symbol that is the most valuable of all and when five of these are achieved on a payline, the payout equals 750 times the bet level. At bet level ten and a coin value of the maximum 50p therefore, that equates to winnings of £3750 for that one payline only. The other character symbols pay at levels of 600, 500 and 400 times the bet level respectively.

Betting Limits

The way in which players choose the amount they stake per spin when playing Creature from the Black Lagoon is by setting a coin value from six options and a bet level from 1-10. The bet level dictates how many coins are bet per line and the number of paylines is pre-set at 20.

All of that means that the lowest possible bet amount per spin when the lowest bet level of one and the lowest coin value of 1p is set, equals 20p. On the other hand, at the two highest levels of ten and 50p the bet amount equates to a total of £100.

Overall Review Rating

With an interesting theme, fun gameplay, good control over betting amounts and the potential for impressive wins, Creature from the Black Lagoon is a slot that the huge majority of players should enjoy.

It combines charming old fashioned horror symbols with modern graphics to make the most of the movie theme and uses its three special symbols well to both keep to that theme and to add an interesting bonus game to the slot.

A number of different stake amount options, which can be altered in two different ways, give players all of the control they could want over their wagering amount and at all such levels the potential payouts from the most valuable winning combinations are significantly greater than the amount staked.
